Some ideas I had for the new library:

1. A snack bar area with vending machines and a kitchen (including a fridge, stove, coffee maker and microwave). Or a coffee stand with baristas who provide fresh coffee at low prices.

2. A food court or restaurant.

3. A daycare center/playroom for students who have children.

4. A series of knowledge bars with tv screens that hook up to the computer.

5. A recreation room for stress release with couches, tv, video games, dvds, and dvd player (movie theater).

6. An automated barcode scanner that allows students to renew their books on their own in a second without having to keep coming to circulation to check in the book and check it back out.

7. A place where students can donate their old casebooks and supplements to the library in exchange for a free pass on overdue books.

8. A contest where the students who have the least amount of overdue notices gets a free book or gift certificate.

9. A bookstore where students can actually buy used books that students have donated or that the library doesn't need.

10. A room to take naps.

11. A 24/7 open area where students can stay and keep studying even after the library closes.

12. A change machine that gives you change after putting bills in for student who might night change for parking meters.

13. A fitness center.

14. Fax machine and scanner that students can use.

It would be interesting to have either an:

art room
a music room
or a combination.

Just some place where creative students can de-stress by drawing, painting, sculpting, playing a keyboard (with headphones of course).

I would also like to see more of a "logic" area that is more inclusive than just the puzzle tables.  Find things like white boards with sudoku puzzles, crosswords, numbers games - and maybe have other books with riddles and games for students to use.

I would also like to see a "multi-language" cultural area of the library where there would be resources for students to learn another language and practice those that they already know.

What I think would be great at the new library are small, one person rooms that have a recliner (preferably a massaging recliner). The rooms can be closed off by a curtain or something like that. Quiet and relaxing.

If you have ever had service on a car done at Camelback Toyota, you will know what I am talking about.

How about small two person quite study rooms like ASU's library has in addition to the larger study rooms.

1.  Bookstore or area where students can exchange/sell textbooks, supplemental materials (e.g. study aids) they no longer need.  Current students who are looking for these products can go to this bookstore/area first before having to buy from and outside vendor (e.g. Amazon). The bookstore/are can be set up on a credit voucher system.

2. System to reserve books when the book is not available (e.g. checked out by another student).

3. Individual chairs with outlets so students can  charge phones, laptops, etc. while reading.  Also, individual chairs would have could have foldable table to use.

I think a text book exchange program would be great. Leave-a-book-take-a-book. It could also include supplements.

Also "Open Study Group"  sign up. Students can utilize a dedicated board to post the subjects they want to study (w/time and date) and invite others via a posting .

The PSL Library should also have a coffee bar. They could serve coffee (and some of its many variations) and warm snacks.

Labeling the stacks with categories in addition to the call numbers would be really helpful.  More labeling throughout the library would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Some type of flag or indicator outside the study rooms so that a person could see, at quick glance, which rooms are filled and which are not; without having to go past each one to find out individually.

Here are a few more ideas:
1.  more plants= more oxygen= brain power.
2.  vending machine with emergency supplies- pencils, erasers, highlighters, headphones, etc.
3.  charger check-out:  a selection of the most common computer and phone chargers that can be checked out from the circ desk.
