This guest post is from our Library Loot Champion, David Enevoldsen. David has won 4 Library Loot puzzles this semester. Thank you David for taking time to share your tips with others!

See if YOU can compete with David! Library Loot puzzles are new each Tuesday at 9am right here on Footnotes1!

Library Loot Strategy Guide

This is a quick overview of what’s in the library loot contest and how you can win it. There are three types of library loot contests and different prizes for each one:

Contest

What’s Required

Winner’s Prize

(1) Scavenger Hunt

Find the golden certificate hidden somewhere in the library – take it to the front desk

Candy from the treasure box

(2) Research Question

Research and answer a legal question – post the answer in the comments section of the blog

Passing the Bar board game or flashcard supplement

(3) Crossword

Solve a crossword puzzle – take the solved puzzle to the front desk

$10 gift card

A new puzzle is posted in the library’s blog every Tuesday morning. They go in the order above and then start over. So week one is the scavenger hunt, week two is the trivia question, week three is the crossword, week four is the scavenger hunt, and so on.

There a few simple tips that will help ensure that you win. Each contest is slightly different, so the tricks are different for each. The one thing that they all have in common is that you must play, or you won’t win.

(1) Scavenger Hunt –

The trick to the scavenger hunt, is getting to know the school’s library. There are two important tools at your disposal for this contest: the library catalogue and the library map. Get familiar with the two and you’re sure to find the golden ticket.

(2) Research Question –

The research questions are all about creativity and learning either Lexis and/or Westlaw. Whatever your search engine of choice, figure out how to navigate quickly, and you’ll get the answer you need to complete the puzzle.

(3) Crossword –

This puzzle is kind of like a string of slightly easier trivia questions. As with the trivia questions, be creative and get familiar with the legal search engines. Also, don’t be afraid to use other tools, such as Internet search engines, Heinonline, the books in the school library, etc. Just think outside of the box and you’ll find the answers you need.

We know everyone is on Spring Break... and perhaps that gives you some time to check out the Law Library's AMAZING legal DVD collection (located along the west wall behind the reference desk)! View a listing of the DVDs in our collection here. Read a previous blog post about our legal DVD collection here.

For students, DVDs circulate for 7 days with no renewals. Students may check out up to 5 DVDs at one time. Be sure to watch My Cousin Vinny, The Paper Chase, or any of the many legal TV shows we have in the collection, such as Law & Order (naturally)! We even have the Academy Award-nominated & winner of 3 Oscars (for film editing, music-original score, and writing- adapted screenplay), The Social Network!

Following this tangent, I bring you this week's Library Loot puzzle- a crossword all about Legal Cinema! Be sure to read the instructions carefully!

Instructions: For this crossword puzzle, you will need to use your legal research skills to determine the answer. Open the PDF document below to view the crossword puzzle. Please print the document and fill in the squares with the correct answers. The first person to turn in the correctly filled out crossword puzzle to the Circulation Desk is the winner.
